City of Seattle

Posted May 15, 2024

Position Description
Seattle City Light, a department of the City of Seattle, is one of the nation’s largest municipally owned utilities in terms of the number of customers served. Over the years we have worked very hard to keep Seattle's electricity affordable, reliable, and environmentally sound. Today, City Light is a recognized national leader in energy efficiency and environmental stewardship.

City Light’s 2023-2028 Strategic Plan identified the implementation of “Time-of-Use” (TOU) rates as a key new program initiative to expand customer service options. Seattle City Council approved City Light’s plan to roll out customer options in multiple phases over the next few years. The new TOU Program will offer residential and small/medium general service customers new rate choices that will enable businesses and residents to save money by shifting when they use power. The TOU Program includes delivering two major information technology (IT) projects or “components” to help customers understand, manage, and reduce their energy use at specific times of the day:

  1. Advanced View Usage in the Portal, allowing for customer interval data access. (completed November 2023)
  2. Customer Insights Solution: Energy Use & Rate Options Platform (e.g. calculator & self-serve rate comparison information)
