PLMA Recognizes Joel Gilbert with Founder Award

Atlanta, Georgia – October 29, 2013 – The Peak Load Management Alliance (PLMA) today announced Joel Gilbert is the recipient of the PLMA Founder Award for 2013. The award was presented at the opening of the 14th PLMA Fall Conference in Atlanta.

"In 1999, Joel had the foresight and courage to assume the financial and professional risks of organizing and sponsoring the first national conference on demand response with Elliot Boardman, remarked PLMA Chairman Paul Tyno of REGEN Energy at the award presentation. "The success of that inaugural event led to the formation of the Peak Load Management Alliance (PLMA). Today, PLMA continues to thrive and has grown to over 50 organizations as members.”

Joel Gilbert, P.E. is Chief Software Architect and Co-Founder of APOGEE Interactive, Inc. where he personally directs the design and development of energy analysis applications. Prior to cofounding Apogee, he built his career in energy consulting, being retained by over 200 gas and electric utilities and over 100 industrial and commercial firms across the United States to help them clarify and implement successful customer energy programs. His client roster included virtually every major investor-owned utility in the US and their key trade associations including the Edison Electric Institute (EEI), the Electric Power Institute (EPRI), the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association, and the American Public Power Association (APPA).

The PLMA Founder’s Award recognizes those energy industry leaders who have demonstrated a long-standing commitment to innovative demand response methods to meet peak load needs, mitigate price risks, and manage variable generation. Demand response has grown from simply reducing peak loads to balancing supply and demand for increased efficiency and reliability of a smarter grid. Demand response and other methods to balancing intermittent power loads are becoming even more important as renewable energy becomes a larger part of electricity supply.
