Company deepens utility, customer expertise with two new hires

Boulder, Colo. — May 18, 2023 — Uplight, the technology partner of energy providers transitioning to a decarbonized future, today announced an expansion of its executive leadership team by appointing Shaila Lakhani Ohri as Senior Vice President and General Counsel and Hannah Bascom as Chief Market Innovation Officer.

Together, these executives bring decades of experience supporting innovation and decarbonization via utilities, energy service providers and other key players in the ecosystem. With Ohri’s legal experience providing strategic counsel across Exelon’s businesses and Bascom’s expertise leveraging technology and partnerships to move the industry forward, Uplight is poised to accelerate its transformational impact.

Ohri and Bascom bring decades of experience at high-performing businesses in the energy sector:

  • Shaila Lakhani Ohri, Senior Vice President and General Counsel: Ohri brings extensive legal expertise within the energy industry, and joins Uplight from Exelon, the nation’s largest utility company which serves more than 10 million customers. There, she served for fourteen years in various legal functions, including with Pepco Holdings, Inc., with oversight across a number of areas, including innovation, emerging technology, intellectual property and branding, commercial and corporate transactions, financing, corporate governance and securities. She also chaired the legal department’s diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) steering committee, and is actively involved in numerous DEI-focused bar associations and organizations. Prior to Exelon, she spent over a decade in various legal roles focusing on financing, transactional and employment work.

  • Hannah Bascom, Chief Market Innovation Officer: Bascom will lean on her deep expertise at the intersection of consumers, technology and the regulated energy sector to lead market development and marketing strategy for Uplight. As a current SEPA board member and the outgoing VP of Regulated Business at the electrification company SPAN, Bascom has an innovative view of where the energy industry is headed and a track record of accelerating impact. Her experience as the Head of Energy Partnerships at Google Nest helped to establish smart thermostats and residential demand response programs at scale, improving customer relationships and grid resiliency. Previously, Bascom also spent time at Pacific Gas and Electric Company and in utility consulting.
