Cost-Effective Energy Storage Patent Awarded to Steffes Corporation

Tuesday, August 19, 2014

(DICKINSON, NORTH DAKOTA USA, AUGUST 19, 2014) This past week the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office issued a patent to the Steffes Corporation for its design of a system to use domestic water heaters and other appliances to store renewable wind and solar energy.

This patent was awarded for the Steffes “GETS” Dynamic Dispatch™ energy storage system which provides utilities with second-to-second precision control (0 to 100% charging) of fleets of specially instrumented water heaters and appliances. Cloud aggregation of the water heaters makes this fleet appear as a fast-ramp virtual generator to the utility operator who matches the charge / discharge of the water heaters to the volatile supply of renewable wind and solar energy. Modulating energy in this way not only optimizes the utilization and storage of renewable energy but simultaneously helps to stabilize the grid.

We are excited to assist utilities and homeowners integrate larger amounts of green, renewable energy into their systems,” said Paul Steffes, CEO of the Steffes Corporation. “With dozens of successful trials under our belt, we have been able to perfect our Dynamic Dispatch™ energy storage system. The interest by utilities has been just amazing!”
