This course will be presented in partnership with Navigant Consulting and is slated to debut in 2015 at host utility NV Energy in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The primary audience for the courses includes utility and regulatory staff as well as other energy industry trade allies and organizations seeking to improve their knowledge of how demand response methods are used in the electricity industry to meet peak electricity demand, mitigate the impact of high electricity prices, and manage variable generation. The PLMA Demand Response Training Series is open to all industry stakeholders. Furthermore, it will be offered at significantly discounted rates to PLMA member organization staff as a way to help member organizations with their training needs.

Michael Brown, Manager of Demand Response & Distributed Energy Resources at NV Energy is Chair of PLMA’s Education Committee. He notes, “PLMA members have always been at the forefront of an evolving demand response industry. They represent the voice of experienced practitioners. We are adding another channel for members and non-members alike to directly benefit from this experience through experiential learning with established industry experts. PLMA members Navigant Consulting, Skipping Stone, and UISOL are helping PLMA launch this effort with solid support from the Executive Committee, the Education Committee, and additional member organizations. We expect the series to evolve and improve over time with the feedback and support of the membership.”

Paul Tyno, PLMA Chair, says, “Staff at all levels should gain insight from the series, but it will be particularly beneficial to new and junior employees or those who need to learn about demand response quickly. In addition to the formal curriculum, attendees will learn from a panel of representative PLMA board members during each course. This approach blends classroom instruction with front line experience."
