Demand Response (DR) Business Leader Position Statement

ICF International currently seeks a Demand Response (DR) Business Leader to join ICF’s Commercial Energy business. The DR Leader will be aware of and understand the industry, its offerings, where it is evolving, future opportunities, and the vendor and technology landscape. Leader will contribute substantively to ICF’s DR strategy and then work collaboratively to develop and implement residential and C&I direct load control (dispatchable) DR programs and behavioral (non-dispatchable) DR programs. This leader also will work collaboratively across ICF to: ensure the offerings are integrated with existing energy efficiency planning and implementation; support an integrated Demand Side Resources (iDSR) strategy; and evaluate and recommend strategic partners and manage partnerships for specific programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Regulatory: Maintain awareness of the ISO, federal, state, and utility program rules that affect customer, operational, and financial performance and develop compliance processes if necessary.  Develop and maintain relationships with program managers and key decision makers at ISOs, utilities, regulatory and state agencies, to identify opportunities for growth.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare the financial reports necessary to effectively manage and grow the DR business area within ICF. Prepare forecasts of DR load and associated revenue, including gross margin. Track and manage customer incentives or rebates as applicable.
  • Contract and Process Management: Maintain contract financial performance.  Ensure contracts are current with regard to registered loads and contact information. 
  • DR Program and Operations Management: Deliver projects on time and on budget.  Serve as ICF’s primary interface with third party vendors in support of customer registrations into ISO and utility programs, validate payments from third party vendor, validate customer performance during an event, and support customer event notification.
  • Customer Service: Support sales organization with regard to customer relations and programs including rules and implementation requirements. Attend customer events/trade shows as required.
  • Successful Execution: Manage interface with and deliverables to staff, vendors, and customers of processes and performance information.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required; engineering or business degree preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of sales experience
  • Minimum 5 years DR or related experience required
  • Intermediate level in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills
  • Proactive leadership style  that drives change, is creative, and takes the initiative to guide and contribute to team’s success

Experience:

  • Experience planning, implementing, and delivering DR programs
  • Experience working with utilities, including understanding their goals, challenges and regulatory environment
  • Knowledge of market operations and preferably experience working with at least one ISO
  • Demonstrated experience with resource planning and/or grid planning
  • Demonstrated thought leadership
  • Demonstrated advisory capability
  • Demonstrated utility rate analysis, technology analysis (ROI/NPV)
  • Understanding of utility DR and peak demand reduction programs and load profiling
  • Understanding of residential and/or C&I electrical building systems such as HVAC systems and controls, lighting control systems, occupancy sensing, intelligent building systems
  • Ability to conduct energy analyses and calculations
