This interactive class explores the key elements of demand response, including program development subjects such as the market and regulatory environments, business drivers, market potential, program design, and economic analysis.

Program implementation subjects include the tactics and methodologies used to improve program success including discussions of organizational and resourcing strategies, contracting, business processes, technology integration, and measurement & verification. Interactive exercises will enable participants to gain hands-on experience. This class expands on a white paper at www.peakload.org/evolution.

  • Demand Response overview, drivers, and program types
  • Demand Response and Distributed Energy Resource Market potential
  • Portfolio development for electric and gas: size and timing; grid services; non-wires alternatives; group exercise
  • Program design for electric and gas: target markets, technologies, incentives, and budgets
  • Cost-effectiveness assessment: cost, benefits, standard tests, issues and decisions; group exercise
  • Program implementation strategies and tactics: staffing; marketing (assessment, branding, recruitment); group exercise;

The primary audience includes new and transitioning utility and regulatory staff as well as solution providers seeking to improve their knowledge of how transition/reposition/create customer programs to address DR methods and emerging DERs to meet peak electricity demand, mitigate the impact of high energy prices, and manage variable generation. Continuing Education
This class may qualify for AEE continuing education credit and may be accepted for other certifications as well. PLMA can provide supporting documentation upon request. 

Course Materials
Registrants will receive a link for downloading an electronic copies of the course presentation materials. All registrants who successfully complete the course may request a PLMA Certificate of Completion.
