The 17th PLMA Awards Program, for achievements during calendar year 2019, will recognize industry leaders who create innovative ideas, methods, programs and technologies that manage energy loads in order to meet flexible load management needs, mitigate price risks, and support successful grid integration of distributed generation assets. PLMA Awards Program Co-Chairs are Michael Smith, National Grid; Laurie Duhan, Baltimore Gas and Electric; and Brett Feldman, Navigant.

Load Management has extended beyond demand response to Distributed Energy Resources (DERs), Non-wires Alternatives (NWAs) and combine with Integrated Demand Side Management (IDSM) to provide full portfolio solutions to both increasing production from renewables and shifting demand curves. The proliferation of DERs has made IDSM grow in importance to the utility community and consumers of energy alike. Practitioners of load management continue to lead and respond to the challenge, developing innovative solutions and business models that deliver on the promise of the smart grid. The PLMA Awards Program exists in order recognize, support and promote these innovations and innovators.

Over the past 16 years, PLMA has presented 79 awards to recipients who have included utilities, curtailment providers, end-users, and individuals responsible for demand response efforts targeted to the residential, commercial, industrial and agricultural customer markets.
