Demand Response practitioners need to stay up to date on trends, markets, consumer positions, and how the industry is shifting. This roundtable discussion will explore findings from the research side, including results from:

  • E Source and PLMA 2016 Direct Load Control Benchmarking Study
  • Smart Electric Power Alliance The State of Demand Response—2016
  • Smart Grid Consumer Collaborative Consumer Interest in Demand Response

This conversation is a "replay" of the opening panel presentation from the 35th PLMA Conference in Nashville.

Who Should Attend 
Utility and regulatory staff as well as other energy industry trade allies and organizations seeking thought leadership and insight on innovative demand response methods to meet peak energy load needs, mitigate price, and manage variable generation. You must be staff from a PLMA member organization to join the Interest Group, but anyone may listen-in for the online discussion.

Tim Stout, a senior advisor working across the Consulting, Strategic Relations, and Research departments at E Source, has extensive experience in the design, implementation, and evaluation of energy-efficiency and demand-response programs. For 23 years before joining E Source, Tim held a number of positions in the Energy Efficiency and Demand Response department at National Grid, an electricity and gas utility serving more than 7 million customers in the Northeast. 


Brenda Chew Brenda Chew
Smart Electric Power Alliance

Brenda manages SEPA’s Annual Utility Survey and Snapshot Series, and supports a range of research efforts on the integration of distributed energy resources. Prior to SEPA, Brenda worked as a consultant at ICF, focusing on distributed energy resources, Utility of the Future and grid modernization efforts.


Patty Durand Patty Durand
Smart Grid Consumer Collaborative

Patty joined Smart Grid Consumer Collaborative in January of 2011 as its first President & CEO. Before coming to SGCC, she worked for Georgia Tech, where she focused on smart grid research projects and helped to submit almost $10 million in grants to ARPA-E and DOE. Before that, she served as the Executive Director for the Georgia Chapter of the Sierra Club where she focused on energy policy and programs.


Richard Philip
Duke Energy and PLMA Chair

Rich Philip is Duke Energy’s Manager, Products & Services for Demand Response Programs in the states of Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky. The overall portfolio of demand response totals over 600 megawatts of resources throughout Duke’s three-state Midwest service area. Rich has experience in load research, electric rates, marketing research, and market management as well as product management. Rich is in his 33rd year with Duke and predecessor companies, having started his career with Public Service Indiana, which became part of Cinergy Corp. in a 1994 merger and later became part of Duke Energy as part of the Cinergy/Duke merger in 2006.
