29% of US broadband households plan to purchase a smart thermostat in 2020
Parks Associates and PLMA presents data and insights on consumer awareness and
familiarity of energy management solutions, programs, and tools
Dallas, Texas, February 4, 2020 – Parks Associates research finds 29% of US broadband households plan to purchase a smart thermostat in 2020 and 13% of broadband households currently own a smart thermostat. Consumers are also showing more interest in automated energy programs, as 42% of current smart thermostat owners would allow a utility to adjust their device in order to save energy.
Parks Associates and PLMA will co-host the complimentary webcast “Trends and Opportunities in Residential Energy Management” on Thursday, February 6, 1 p.m. CT (2 p.m. ET). The webcast will present industry insights, analysis on recent product announcements from CES, and new consumer and industry research from Parks Associates, including adoption of smart home products, new partnerships, and deployment of new programs by utilities.

Summary
The purpose of this position is to lead and perform distributed energy resources-related analyses, planning support and market research for the DER group. The position is located within the Distributed Energy Resources (DER) (PES) organization of Energy Efficiency (PE) and Power Services (P) in the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA).
Duties
- Define and perform a variety of analyses related to DER technologies and products for diverse internal or external clients.
- Perform and/or oversee contractor and team implementation of market research activities, including development of research strategies and methodologies.
- Provide oversight on contractor work and supports manager in procuring contract resources.
- Perform internal and external engagement on analyses and market research.
- Represent BPA on Council and other regional committees related to DER planning and analyses.

Nexant is looking for a Senior/Principal Level Distribution Planning and Analysis Engineer who will lead distribution-related consulting services offered to our utility and project developer clients. The Senior Distribution Planning and Analysis Engineer should also have prior experience in distribution system engineering and operations, as well as interconnecting distributed energy resources (DERs) such as distributed PV and energy storage to the distribution system. Preference will be given to those who have significant relevant experience for this Principal level position. This position can be based in the San Francisco, CA or Chandler, AZ locations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Strong technical understanding of planning and operations of distribution systems, as well as power industry fundamentals and practices.
- Experience in distribution planning, engineering, operations and capital budgeting.
- Experience using distribution modeling and simulation software such as CYME, ETAP, WindMil, ArcGIS for steady state power flow, voltage, short circuit and other calculations.
- Experience with development and use of distribution reliability performance metrics (SAIDI, SAIFI, etc.).
- Experience with interconnecting Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) such as distributed PV and energy storage and performing hosting capacity studies.
- Experience with planning and procurement of Non-Wires Solutions for T&D projects.
- Experience with the high-level design of electrical systems associated with DERs and micro grids, including developing one-line diagrams and high-level cost estimates.
- Experience with analyzing large volumes of data from SCADA and customer billing databases.
- Knowledge of technical characteristics of DERs such as battery storage, rooftop PV solar, EVSE, smart inverters and micro grids.
- Knowledge of applicable codes and standards related to DERs such as IEEE 1547.
- Knowledge and experience with reliability and resiliency improvement programs is a plus.
- Knowledge of transmission planning and analysis is a plus.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor or Advanced Degree in Electrical Engineering with 5+ years of experience in electric utility distribution planning, engineering and operations.
- Strong working knowledge of distributed energy resources.
- Registration as Professional Electrical Engineer is a plus.
- Utility experience is a plus
- Must be able to travel locally, nationally or internationally up to approximately 10% of the time.
